As Gazi University, Faculty of Science, Department of Statistics, it was deemed appropriate to open the DATA SCIENCE MASTER PROGRAM, in line with the goal of "Digital Turkey", at the meeting of YÖK on 20.05.2020.

It has been offered to the service of our country.

What is Data Science?

Data science is a science that uses scientific methods, processes, algorithms, and systems to extract meaningful information from data and extract value from data. It is the science where we extract some information from the data sources we have using data analytics and turn this information into action. People who manage the process of extracting meaningful information from data are called data scientists. In other words, there are data sources, we examine these data with our analytical thinking skills, analyze them and extract some information.

What are the Components of Data Science?

We can divide the components of Data Science into two main parts in a basic structure. These are Statistical Science and Computer Science.

Statistics Science:

If I say Modern Data Science is based on statistical modeling of the world, I must have made a mistake. The discipline called Statistical Learning Theory aims to reach the solution of the problems through optimum parameters by expressing the problems we want to solve as statistical models.

Computer Science:

Computer Science is the study of theory, experimentation, and engineering that form the basis for the design and use of computers. It is a scientific and practical approach to calculation and its applications. Computer Science; It is the systematic study of the feasibility, structure, expression and mechanization of procedures or algorithms based on the method underlying acquisition, representation, processing, storage, communication and access. An alternative, more concise definition of computer science can be defined as "the study of automating large, medium or small-scale algorithmic operations".
